'Izaak & Charles'??
George Augustus Holmes
1822 - 1911
A work that is different from his usual style of children and animals.
Holmes is collected worldwide and commands prices in the tens of thousands. Whilst the date of his birth is uncertain he first exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1852.
This painting, though not of his familiar style and subject, demonstrates his attention to detail with the bird's beautiful plumage and the life of the stream.
Having had only slight restoration to the canvas and in the original frame.
The title has been given by me as a link with the human counterparts Izaak Walton and Charles Cotton writers of the Compleat Angler.
Actual canvas size: 11" x 8.5" ( 28 x 22cms )
Frame size: 13.75" x 11.25" (35 x 29cms)
Priced at £1995.00
